WWT Slimbridge is a significant wetland wildlife reserve located near Slimbridge in Gloucestershire, England. Established in 1946 by Sir Peter Scott, it spans approximately 800 hectares of diverse habitats, including pasture, reed beds, lagoons, and salt marshes. The reserve is renowned for its extensive collection of captive wildfowl and plays a vital role in research and conservation efforts, making it a key site for both wildlife enthusiasts and educational activities. Visitors to Slimbridge can expect to see a variety of waterfowl throughout the year, with January being the peak month for sightings. Look out for Ross's Geese and Snow Geese, which are best observed around 10:00 AM, as well as large numbers of white-fronted geese and Bewick's swans. March is ideal for spotting Tundra Swans, while September is notable for Common Cranes. The reserve also offers opportunities to see other species like Little Stints and Spotted Redshanks, making it a rewarding destination for birdwatchers.
