Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust

WWT London Wetland Centre is a unique urban wetland reserve located in the Barnes area of Richmond upon Thames, southwest London. Established in 2000, it spans over 100 acres and features four disused Victorian reservoirs transformed into diverse wetland habitats. Designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it is home to a variety of wildlife, including nationally significant populations of gadwall and northern shoveler, making it a vital sanctuary for urban biodiversity. Visitors can expect to see a range of wildlife throughout the year, with peak sightings of Eurasian bittern and grey heron occurring in December. The best time for observing these species is around midday. Other notable species include tufted duck in February and moorhen in March, both of which are present year-round. For those interested in mammals, red foxes are most frequently spotted in August, particularly around 1 AM. The centre offers a vibrant experience for nature enthusiasts at any time of year.
