WWT Castle Espie is a vibrant wetland and woodland reserve located in Northern Ireland, dedicated to the restoration of wetland habitats. The reserve is a key site for wildlife conservation, providing a sanctuary for various bird species and other wildlife. Birdwatchers can look forward to spotting Little Egrets, Shelducks, and Teals throughout the year, with peak sightings in January, February, and March respectively. April is particularly rewarding, showcasing Moorhens, Oystercatchers, and Black-headed Gulls. For those interested in butterflies, July is the best time to see Meadow Browns and Common Blues. The reserve is best visited at dawn or dusk, around midnight for most species, to experience the height of wildlife activity.
