Moor House-upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve

Moor House-Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve encompasses 7,400 hectares of stunning Pennine moors, straddling Cumbria and County Durham. Designated as a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1976, it is England's highest and largest National Nature Reserve (NNR), featuring Great Dun Fell as its highest point. The reserve showcases a unique landscape and is traversed by the Pennine Way, making it an excellent destination for nature enthusiasts. Wildlife highlights include the Variegated Horsetail and Big Shaggy-moss, both peaking in May with optimal observation times around 01:00. While sightings data is limited, visiting during this peak month may offer the best chances to spot these species.
