Turner’s Wood, located in Pelsall, is a charming nature reserve that features a spinney dominated by oak trees, along with Scots Pine, Holly, and Rowan. This historic woodland, which has been part of the landscape for over 170 years, plays a vital role in a wildlife corridor connecting Cannock Chase to Walsall. Managed by the Wildlife Trust, it is an important site within the Birmingham and Black Country Nature Improvement Area, although access is limited to specific events and activities. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing a variety of species throughout the year. January is particularly active, with sightings of Mallards and Coots peaking at midnight. February brings Woodpigeons and Blue Tits, while March is notable for Dunnocks. For those interested in invertebrates, the Batman Hoverfly can be spotted in June. Visitors are encouraged to check for scheduled events to enhance their experience in this tranquil woodland setting.
