The Mens Nature Reserve is a large expanse of ancient woodland located in the Low Weald, just a few miles from Ebernoe Common. This largely unexplored area is characterised by its untamed and mysterious atmosphere, shaped by a long history of management that has transitioned from open wood pasture to a high forest. The reserve is free to visit and relies on support from its members to maintain its natural beauty and diversity. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for badgers and roe deer, particularly active in January around midnight. Other notable sightings include slow-worms in March and yellow-necked mice in February. Birdwatchers may spot robins in April and jays in May, while various plant species such as wood-sedge and beech can be observed peaking in October. The reserve offers a unique opportunity to experience a rich tapestry of wildlife throughout the year.
