Sunnybank is a small yet significant nature reserve located behind a petrol station at the end of Ecclesall Road in Sheffield. Established in 1985 as the first reserve by the Sheffield City Wildlife Group, it serves as a vital green corridor connecting urban areas to the Peak District. The reserve features a tranquil pool surrounded by aquatic and wetland plants, providing a peaceful retreat from the surrounding urban noise. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species, particularly in the summer months when butterflies such as the small skipper and common blue are abundant. Early September is an important time for conservation efforts, particularly for the common frog, a UK threatened species. While sightings data indicates that grey squirrels are most active in December, visitors can also spot chiffchaffs, greenfinches, and blackcaps throughout the year, alongside hedgehogs and pipistrelle bats.
