Southerham Farm Nature Reserve features picturesque rolling downland, rich in chalk grassland flowers and butterflies, and is part of the South Downs National Park. Located near Lewes in East Sussex, this working livestock farm is surrounded by the scenic landscapes of the Malling Downs and includes notable landmarks such as the ancient hillfort of Mount Caburn. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for a variety of species throughout the year, with peak sightings occurring in April, particularly for Garlic Mustard and Herring Gull. Notable observations include Mute Swans in September and Grey Herons in January. The best times for wildlife activity are often around midnight, making evening visits particularly rewarding. Other species to watch for include Goldcrest in November and Cetti's Warbler in February, providing a diverse experience for nature lovers.
