South Blean is a 329-hectare nature reserve located near Chartham Hatch, west of Canterbury in Kent. This ancient woodland features a blend of native deciduous trees and conifer plantations, with ongoing restoration efforts by Kent Wildlife Trust to enhance biodiversity. The undulating landscape is interspersed with ancient wood banks and tracks, surrounded by orchards and pasture, creating a diverse habitat that is gradually transforming from commercial forestry into a rich mosaic for wildlife. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of species, particularly in January when activity peaks for birds like the Blackbird and Blue Tit, often best observed around midnight. July is notable for sightings of White Storks and Hazel Dormice, while the best time to spot Badgers is in June. Visitors may also encounter nightjars and nightingales, making South Blean a rewarding destination for nature watchers throughout the year.
