Selwyns Wood Nature Reserve is a small mixed semi-natural woodland located near Heathfield, Sussex. This diverse habitat features a blend of oak, birch, and sweet chestnut trees, alongside notable old beech specimens. Nestled in a south-facing valley, the reserve is characterized by three streams, including a typical Wealden ghyll stream, and an open area dominated by heather, reflecting the unique woodland features of the region. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing a variety of species, particularly in March when activity peaks. Notable sightings include jackdaws, nuthatches, and woodpigeons, all best spotted around midnight. Additionally, grey wagtails and coots are more prevalent in May, while red kites can be seen in February. The reserve offers a tranquil setting for birdwatching and enjoying the rich biodiversity throughout the seasons.
