Pentle Bay to Round Island, located off the east side of Tresco, is part of a larger SSSI complex that includes several offshore islands, notably Round Island and Merrick Island. This stunning area features a vast beach with shallow turquoise waters and is vital for breeding seabird colonies, particularly the storm petrel on Round Island. The management of these islands focuses on non-intervention to minimize disturbance to the seabirds, although climate change poses significant challenges to their populations. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, with notable sightings peaking in October. Look out for Lady Amherst's Pheasant in April, particularly around 1 PM, and the Lesser Yellowlegs at dawn in October. Other highlights include the Golden Pheasant in August and the Pied Flycatcher in September, both of which have specific peak times for observation. The best overall month for birdwatching is October, with peak activity around 11 AM, making it an ideal time to visit.
