Nemo Down is a 21-hectare nature reserve located on the western outskirts of Dover, Kent. This site features a mix of chalk grassland, scrub, and woodland, which has been restored by the Kent Wildlife Trust since its acquisition in 2014. Grazing by Konik ponies and Longhorn cattle helps maintain the grassland, allowing wildflowers like pyramidal orchids to thrive. Visitors can enjoy scenic views from the hilltop and explore the tranquil woodlands of Long Wood and Square Wood. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with notable peaks in January for magpies, woodpigeons, and chaffinches. The summer months are ideal for spotting butterflies such as the Meadow Brown and Ringlet, particularly in July. Birdwatchers should listen for the calls of yellowhammers and lesser whitethroats in the scrub, while the best times for observation generally fall around 01:00.
