Maze Park is a 42-acre urban nature reserve located in Middlesbrough, England, on the south bank of the River Tees. Developed by the Teesside Development Corporation and managed by the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, this green oasis features landscaped mounds, broad-leaved trees, and wildflower meadows. The reserve is designed to attract various wildlife, including the regionally scarce grayling butterfly, making it a valuable ecological site. Visitors can expect to see a range of wildlife throughout the year, with notable sightings including the Green-veined White butterfly and Sedge Warbler peaking in April. The best times for observation are often early in the morning around 01:00, particularly for butterflies, while Mallards are best spotted in October. For those interested in birdwatching, February is ideal for spotting Sparrowhawks, and the reserve is also home to various other species, making it a rewarding destination for nature enthusiasts.
