Marline Valley Nature Reserve is a stunning blend of semi-natural ancient woodland, unimproved meadows, and a classic Sussex ghyll stream, located on the edge of Hastings. Designated as both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Local Nature Reserve, it offers a rich habitat for diverse wildlife. The reserve has been leased from Hastings Borough Council since the 1980s and is free to visit, relying on the support of its members for maintenance and conservation efforts. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of species throughout the year, with peak sightings of Starlings and Woodpigeons occurring in January, particularly around midnight. In the warmer months, July brings opportunities to spot Lords-and-Ladies and Traveller's-joy, while Buzzards can be observed in April. For those interested in plant life, Wild Angelica peaks in November, making it a great time to explore the reserve's botanical diversity.
