Llanymynech Rocks is a unique nature reserve straddling the England-Wales border, located at the southern end of a carboniferous limestone outcrop. Once a bustling limestone quarry until the end of World War I, the area has since been reclaimed by nature, offering stunning views and a vibrant landscape. The reserve is particularly striking in Spring and Summer, showcasing a rich tapestry of flora and fauna. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of butterflies, with peak sightings of Speckled Wood in June and Meadow Brown in July. April brings the Peacock butterfly, while August is ideal for spotting Dark Green and Silver-washed Fritillaries. The best time for observations across species is around 1:00 PM, making it an excellent time to visit for those keen on experiencing the reserve's lively insect population.
