Levin Down Nature Reserve is a remarkable example of chalk grassland and scrub, located near Goodwood racecourse in Sussex. This Site of Special Scientific Interest boasts a diverse array of flora and fauna, thriving in its natural habitat that has remained largely untouched due to its steep terrain, which prevented intensive agriculture. Visitors can enjoy the stunning landscape and the rich biodiversity that Levin Down has to offer, free of charge. The reserve is particularly vibrant during the summer months, with August being the best time to observe a variety of butterfly species, including the Meadow Brown and Red Admiral, which peak around this time. Early morning visits around 1:00 AM can yield sightings of these butterflies, along with the Small Copper and Silver-washed Fritillary. For those interested in birdwatching, the Little Owl can be spotted at dusk in August, adding to the reserve's wildlife highlights.
