Lazenby Bank is a stunning woodland reserve located south of Middlesbrough, stretching from Wilton Castle to Eston Nab. This 200-acre area features a mix of ancient and newer woodlands, predominantly composed of ash, oak, beech, and chestnut trees. Visitors can enjoy vibrant displays of bluebells and wood anemones in spring, while the reserve's rich history includes remnants of iron mining and ancient human settlements, making it a culturally significant site as well. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for various species throughout the year, with notable sightings including Red Grouse in January and Grey Squirrel in February. Spring is an excellent time to spot Dog's Mercury and Song Thrush, while Barn Owls are best observed in October. For the most active wildlife experience, visit in January around noon, when Red Grouse sightings peak. The diverse habitats and tranquil environment make Lazenby Bank a rewarding destination for nature lovers.
