Kemsing Down is a 16-hectare nature reserve located north of Sevenoaks in Kent, managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust. This area features a mix of ancient and secondary woodland, scrub, and chalk grassland, all set within the picturesque Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views and explore four open glades, which are maintained through winter mowing and rabbit grazing, supporting a diverse range of flora, including various orchids and notable grassland species. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting a variety of species, particularly in July when activity peaks. Notable sightings include the Red Fox and Woodpigeon, both commonly observed during this month. Butterflies such as the Common Blue and Meadow Brown can also be seen, alongside other wildlife like the Southern Hawker and Song Thrush. Early morning visits around 01:00 are recommended for the best chances of observing these species in action.
