Hummersea is a unique nature reserve located near Skinningrove, characterised by steeply sloping maritime cliffs and rich biodiversity. It is home to the largest colony of over a thousand plants in the area, thriving in damp heavy-clay soil created by wet springs and mini-landslides. Visitors can access the reserve via the Cleveland Way, although it is important to note that there is no access to the beach and the terrain can be hazardous. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as Rock Pipits and Goldfinches, with peak sightings occurring in September and October, respectively. April is a great time to spot Linnets and Yellowhammers, while January is notable for observing Robins and Oystercatchers. For the best experience, visit around midday for Rock Pipits or at dusk for Gray Partridges and Black Redstarts in April.
