Hardwick Dene
UK Wildlife Trusts
Hardwick Dene is a tranquil valley located near urban Stockton, offering a serene escape into nature with its old meadows, hedgerows, and deciduous woodland. This reserve features a mix of steep gradients and relatively level grassland, with access primarily via unsurfaced paths and steps. Its natural habitat has been preserved from development, making it a valuable area for local wildlife. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for grey squirrels, particularly active in December, with peak sightings occurring around midnight. The reserve is also home to various bird species that benefit from the abundant scrubland and berry-producing plants, providing excellent nesting sites in spring and food sources in autumn and winter.
