Greno Woods is an expansive 178-hectare ancient woodland located north of Grenoside village in South Yorkshire. This nature reserve, rich in wildlife and historic interest, features a variety of habitats, including mature oak woodland and heathland. Acquired by the Trust in 2012, it offers a peaceful environment for exploration, recreation, and wildlife watching, with a network of footpaths, bridleways, and mountain bike trails, including the famous Steel City run. Visitors can enjoy a diverse range of wildlife throughout the year, with May being the peak month for birdwatching. Look out for species such as the Wren, Blackbird, and Song Thrush, which are most active around 1:00 AM. Spring brings vibrant woodland wildflowers, while summer offers ripe blackberries and bilberries. Autumn reveals a variety of fungi, making Greno Woods a captivating destination for nature enthusiasts in every season.
