Great Traston Meadows is a traditional landscape located on the Gwent Levels, characterised by its rich biodiversity and low-intensity land management. The reserve features a circular walk of approximately 30 minutes and is traversed by the Wales Coastal Path. Managed in partnership with Gwent Wildlife Trust, it supports a variety of habitats, including meadows filled with vibrant flora and drainage channels that enhance wildlife diversity. Visitors can expect to see a range of birds year-round, with notable peaks in sightings during February for species such as Carrion Crow, Magpie, and Moorhen. Spring brings the arrival of Robins, while the meadows burst into life with Southern marsh orchids in June and July. For those interested in observing wildlife, early morning visits around midnight may yield the best results, particularly for species like the Eurasian Curlew and Shelduck.
