Glenarm is a stunning nature reserve featuring a picturesque wooded river valley and parkland, recognized as one of the finest examples of its kind in Western Europe. The reserve boasts ancient oak trees and diverse riverine and wet woodland habitats, supporting a rich variety of wildlife. It is an important site for conservation, showcasing both natural beauty and ecological significance. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting red squirrels year-round, with peak activity in August. Spring and summer bring breeding birds such as jay and treecreeper, while winter offers chances to see woodcock and crossbill. The Glenarm River is home to dipper and kingfisher, and the summer months reveal butterflies like the silver-washed fritillary. Notably, many species are most active around 01:00, making this an ideal time for nocturnal wildlife observation.
