Girdlers Coppice is a nature reserve managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust, located near Sturminster Newton in Dorset. This ancient woodland features a mix of oak and hazel coppice, alongside flood meadows adjacent to the River Stour. The site is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is known for its rich ground flora, including rare species such as dormice and bats, making it a significant habitat for biodiversity. Visitors can enjoy a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with notable sightings including the Speckled Wood butterfly peaking in June and the Holly Blue in April. The reserve also hosts Great Crested Newts in August and Kingfishers in December. For the best experience, early morning visits around 1:00 AM are recommended, particularly in June when activity is at its highest, offering opportunities to observe both butterflies and birds in their natural habitat.
