Fox Hagg is a recently extended nature reserve featuring a diverse mix of heathland and woodland, situated high on a hillside overlooking the picturesque Rivelin Valley. Adjacent to Wyming Brook, this area boasts a stunning patchwork of bilberry, bracken, heather, birch, scrub, and moorland. The reserve is managed to enhance wildlife habitats, ensuring a rich environment for various species while respecting the historical significance of its holly hagg past. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing a variety of bird species, with notable sightings including magpies peaking in May and house martins also active during this month. Other highlights include the 7-spot ladybird and bohemian waxwing, both peaking in March, while blue tits are best spotted in January. The best times for visits are early morning or around midnight, particularly in May when overall activity is at its highest.
