Fedian is a remarkable 90-acre nature reserve located in County Fermanagh, featuring a diverse range of habitats including wildflower meadows, bird-friendly hedgerows, and ancient woodlands. This area, previously owned by the Nixon family, is now managed by local grazier George Ferguson, ensuring sustainable practices that benefit both wildlife and the landscape. The reserve is a mosaic of species-rich grassland, providing a vital refuge for various flora and fauna, and is set against the stunning backdrop of Lough Erne. Visitors to Fedian can expect to see a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with notable species including the early-purple orchid and common buzzard, best observed in May and January respectively. Springtime brings the vibrant presence of buzzards and Irish hares, while summer showcases the colourful orchids and butterflies, such as the marsh fritillary. For those keen on fungi, September is the prime month to spot various pinkgill species. The best times for wildlife observation are often early in the morning or around midnight, making for a unique experience in this tranquil setting.
