The Eastern Isles, located to the south-east of St Martin’s, comprise a collection of eight small islands and numerous islets, forming a vital habitat for seabirds, seals, and rare flora. This area serves as a gateway to the Isles of Scilly and features diverse landscapes, including maritime heathland and grassland. Notable for its archaeological significance, the islands are home to prehistoric settlements and various protected sites, ensuring minimal disturbance to wildlife. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing a variety of species, particularly in October when activity peaks. Notable sightings include the Great Black-backed Gull, which is best observed around 1:00 AM in April. Other species such as the Blue Tit and House Sparrow peak in September and February, respectively. The Eastern Isles also host eight breeding seabird species, making visits during the breeding season particularly rewarding for birdwatchers.
