Downe Bank is a significant nature reserve located in the North Downs near Downe, in the London Borough of Bromley. Owned and managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, it is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and was the first nature reserve purchased by the Trust in 1962. This area, closely associated with Charles Darwin, features chalk grassland and has been proposed as a World Heritage Site, further emphasizing its ecological and historical importance. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for a variety of species, particularly in March when activity peaks for badgers, grey squirrels, and house sparrows, often observed around midnight. Other notable sightings include woodpigeons in June and dunnocks in February. The diverse habitats at Downe Bank provide excellent opportunities for observing both common and seasonal wildlife throughout the year.
