Dolydd Hafren is the largest unmodified river floodplain in Montgomeryshire, featuring a rich mosaic of habitats including oxbows, wet meadows, reedbeds, and scrub. Managed by Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, the reserve boasts enhanced natural assets such as species-rich hedgerows and woodland. This diverse landscape supports a wide variety of wildlife, making it a vital area for conservation and biodiversity. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a range of species throughout the year, with notable peaks in activity during migration seasons in Spring and Autumn. Key species include the Canada Goose and Ring-necked Pheasant, both peaking in September and August respectively. For birdwatchers, the best time to visit is around 01:00, when sightings of Woodpigeon, Common Buzzard, and Curlew are most frequent.
