Ditchling Beacon Nature Reserve is a stunning site featuring chalk grassland and scrub, located at an Iron Age hillfort in the Weald. Managed by the Trust on behalf of local Commoners, the reserve offers panoramic views and is free to visit. Conservation efforts have reintroduced grazing and cleared scrub to maintain open areas that support unique chalk downland flora, including Round-headed Rampion and Fragrant Orchid. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as the Corn Bunting and Yellowhammer, which are most active in April, particularly around dusk. March is a great time to spot Primrose and Ramsons, while the Northern Wheatear peaks in October. For those interested in raptors, the Short-eared Owl can be seen in February, making Ditchling Beacon a rewarding destination for nature lovers throughout the year.
