Dews Farm Sandpits, located in Harefield, is a unique nature reserve that has transformed from a mineral quarry into a vibrant habitat. The area features striking grassland with hollows and banks, creating sheltered hummocks of acid grassland. This reclamation has fostered a rich ecosystem, making it a haven for various wildlife, particularly during the summer months when insects flourish. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, especially in February when activity peaks. Notable sightings include the Red Kite and Jay, both best observed around midnight, as well as the Red-necked Grebe in January at 2 PM. The reserve is also home to rabbits, which contribute to the abundance of wildflowers, enhancing the overall biodiversity.
