Denham Lock Wood is a 6.3-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located in the Colne Valley Regional Park, near Denham in the London Borough of Hillingdon. This rich habitat features wet woodland, fen, and adjacent meadows, providing a vital refuge for various threatened species amidst the rivers, lakes, and canals of west London. Access is available via the Grand Union Canal Towpath, Denham Country Park, and other nearby trails, though the woodland boardwalk is currently closed due to safety concerns. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for notable species such as the Red-necked Grebe, which peaks in January, particularly around 14:00. Other highlights include the Red Kite in June and various species like Mallard, Jackdaw, and Robin, all peaking in April. For those interested in insects, August is a great time to spot the Speckled Bush-cricket and other invertebrates. Overall, January is the best month for wildlife activity at Denham Lock Wood.
