Danes Moss is a 13.4-hectare nature reserve located south of Macclesfield, Cheshire. Recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it features the largest lowland raised bog in the county, characterised by its rich peat deposits and diverse flora, including seven species of Sphagnum moss. The reserve is managed by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust and is home to a variety of habitats, making it a vital refuge for wildlife. Visitors can look out for a range of species, particularly in March when activity peaks. Notable sightings include the Mallard and various insects like Eristalis pertinax and Helophilus pendulus, which are best observed around 01:00. Birdwatchers may also spot the Eurasian Bullfinch and Jackdaw during this time. The reserve's diverse habitats provide ample opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts to enjoy the unique ecosystem throughout the year.
