Cwm y Wydden is a captivating area of ancient woodland located in the Welsh countryside, characterized by its steep slopes and a small stream that creates a unique microclimate. This reserve, often described as a miniature jungle or Welsh rainforest, is rich in biodiversity, featuring a variety of tree species such as Sessile Oak, birch, and Hazel. The site is known for its dense cover of ferns, lichens, and spring flowering plants, making it a vital habitat for numerous wildlife species. While public access is restricted due to the challenging terrain, visitors can look for wildlife through observation opportunities. Notable species include the Brown Long-eared Bat, which peaks in January, and various plants like Yellow Pimpernel and Wren, both peaking in June. The best time for nocturnal observations is around midnight, particularly in January, when bat activity is at its highest.
