Cwm Byddog is a charming woodland dingle renowned for its ancient pollarded oak trees and vibrant spring wildflowers. This small reserve, of international significance due to its veteran trees, supports a rich variety of lichens, mosses, and other flora. The habitat is crucial for numerous species, including the nationally rare hazel dormouse, and features a diverse insect population, making it a vital ecological site. Visitors can expect to see a range of butterflies, including common blue and speckled wood, particularly in the summer months. The best time to observe bumblebees, such as the red-tailed and common carder bees, is in May, with peak activity around 01:00. Spring is particularly enchanting, as wildflowers like wood anemone and bluebells bloom, creating a stunning display throughout the reserve.
