Croes Robert Wood is a nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located in Monmouthshire, south east Wales. Managed by Gwent Wildlife Trust, this ancient woodland features a circular track and winding paths that lead through diverse habitats, including areas rich in native flora such as bluebells, lesser celandine, and wood anemones. The reserve is also known for its traditional coppicing practices, which support a variety of wildlife, including the rare hazel dormouse. Visitors to Croes Robert Wood can look forward to a vibrant display of wildlife, particularly in July when several species peak in activity, including athous bicolor and various weevils. The best time for observation is around 01:00, making it an ideal spot for night-time enthusiasts. The woodland is also alive with the sounds of birds like blackcaps and chiffchaffs, especially during spring, when the area bursts into life with blooming flowers and active mammals.
