Crane Park Island is a Local Nature Reserve located in Twickenham, within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. This diverse habitat features a mix of woodland, scrub, ditches, ponds, and reedbeds, having evolved since its industrial past in the mid-20th century. The reserve is part of The Crane Corridor Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation and is managed by the London Wildlife Trust. Visitors can enter near the historic Shot Tower, which serves as a visitor centre and exhibition space. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as the Mandarin Duck and Common Kingfisher, both peaking in October and best observed at dusk around 18:00. Other notable sightings include the Red-girdled Mining Bee and Common Toad, which peak in May and April respectively, with optimal viewing times around 01:00. The reserve is particularly vibrant in October, making it an excellent time for wildlife watching.
