Cramside Wood is a stunning area of ancient ash woodland located above the River Wye in the picturesque Wye Valley. This reserve features steep daleside slopes adorned with yew and ash trees, creating a rich habitat for diverse woodland flora, including spring and summer blooms like lily of the valley and sanicle. The site is notable for its nationally rare bird’s foot sedge and mountain melick grass, making it an important ecological area. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing species such as the White-throated Dipper, particularly active in March, and various butterflies like the Small Copper and Meadow Brown peaking in August and July, respectively. The best time for sightings is early in the morning, around 1:00 AM, with March being the overall best month for activity. Visitors can also enjoy the vibrant bluebell displays on the upper slopes during spring.
