Covert Wood, acquired in 2023, is an ancient woodland located within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This reserve features a diverse habitat with a canopy of oak, beech, and sweet chestnut, alongside an understory of hazel, yew, and elder. The site is characterized by its steep chalk bank and beautiful grassland valleys, supporting a rich variety of flora, including bluebells and various orchid species in spring. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting a range of species throughout the year. Notable sightings include the 7-spot Ladybird in March, while September is the best time to see Green Shieldbugs and Red Admirals. June also offers exciting opportunities to observe Common Lizards and various plant species, with peak activity typically occurring around 1:00 AM.
