Cotterill Clough is a 5.6-hectare nature reserve located near Manchester Airport, renowned for its ancient woodland and diverse habitats. Managed by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, it is part of a larger Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The reserve features three distinct zones, including a plateau edge dominated by birch and oak, a middle section of ash-wych elm woodland, and a damp valley floor that supports a variety of ferns, mosses, and flowering plants. Currently, the reserve is closed to the public due to safety concerns. Wildlife enthusiasts may find notable species such as the Black-headed Gull, Carrion Crow, and European Robin, all peaking in September during dusk around 20:00. Other species like the Pheasant and Sanicle have specific peak times in April and June, respectively. While sightings data is limited, September appears to be the most active month for birdwatching at Cotterill Clough.
