Cossington Meadows is a diverse wetland reserve located next to the River Soar in Leicestershire. This LRWT star reserve is ideal for birdwatching, featuring deep pools that attract a variety of wildfowl, including gadwall, tufted duck, and wintering geese. The reserve's dynamic landscape is enhanced by ongoing habitat improvements, making it a prime spot for wildlife enthusiasts throughout the year. Wildlife highlights include the chance to see great egret and Eurasian green woodpecker, particularly at dusk in May and July. The reserve is also home to northern lapwing and oystercatcher, with peak sightings in May. Winter visitors can look for short-eared owls hunting over the meadows, while spring and summer offer opportunities to spot dragonflies and butterflies.
