Corfe Mullen Meadows is a traditional hay meadow located in a tranquil setting, renowned for its rich diversity of wildflower species. This nature reserve features two significant wildflower meadows, notably supporting a large population of near-threatened green-winged orchids, which bloom in May and June. The reserve is managed through traditional hay meadow practices, including grazing after the hay is cut in mid to late summer, creating a vibrant habitat for pollinators such as bees and moths. Visitors to Corfe Mullen Meadows can expect to see the stunning green-winged orchids in full bloom during May, creating a beautiful pink carpet across the fields. The reserve is also home to various wildlife, with common lizards and slow-worms peaking in March. Birdwatchers may spot goldcrests and robins during the winter and early spring months, while butterflies like the Small Heath can be seen in June. The best time to visit for overall wildlife activity is in March, particularly around midnight.
