Copythorne Common Nature Reserve, located on the edge of the New Forest, features a diverse mix of dry heath and acid grassland. This historic site is marked by remnants of World War II, including soldiers' slit trenches and tank depressions. The reserve is currently undergoing restoration to enhance its heathland habitat, supporting a variety of wildlife typical of the nearby National Park. Visitors can expect to see a range of species throughout the year, with notable sightings including butterflies like the Peacock and Large White peaking in April and June, respectively. Birdwatchers may enjoy the songs of woodlarks and the activity of long-tailed tits, while hedgehogs are best spotted in June. The overall best month for wildlife observation is June, particularly around 01:00, when many species are most active.
