Common Farm, acquired by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust in March 2024, is a vital rewilding site located in the heart of the Derwent Valley. This area is being transformed from an intensively managed livestock farm into a diverse mosaic of grassland, scrub, and woodland. As part of the Making Space for Nature initiative, it aims to enhance local biodiversity while serving as a community hub for education and hands-on rewilding experiences. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, particularly in January when sightings peak for Greylag Geese, Mallards, and Moorhens, often around midnight. March brings Dunnocks and Black-headed Gulls, while spring and summer months are ideal for spotting Whitethroats and butterflies like the Green-veined White. Seasonal events, such as dawn chorus walks in spring and fungi forays in autumn, provide opportunities to connect with the natural rhythms of the landscape.
