Collyer's Brook is a tranquil nature reserve located just off the A350 on the way to Shaftesbury. Once a medieval fishing pond, it features a large site with a fringe of wet woodland and vibrant bankside vegetation. The reserve is nourished by a chalk spring and includes two large 'stew ponds' that were originally created for trout breeding, making it a haven for various wildlife. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wetland birds and dragonflies throughout the year. Notably, the Large White butterfly peaks in July, with the best observation times around 01:00. Additionally, otters and bats, including common, soprano, and Daubenton's bats, can be spotted, especially during the evening as they feed over the water.
