Cloud Wood is a 63.3-hectare biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest located north-east of Worthington in Leicestershire. This ancient semi-natural woodland features a rich diversity of flora, with over 220 species of ferns and flowering plants, including rare orchids and a variety of ground flora. Managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, the reserve also includes a nationally significant geological quarry, although public access is restricted in that area. Visitors to Cloud Wood can expect to see a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with notable peaks in activity during spring. April is particularly vibrant, showcasing species like Lesser Celandine and Wild Teasel. Look for Lords-and-Ladies in January and enjoy the emergence of butterflies such as the Common Spotted-orchid in June. Birdwatchers may spot Great Spotted Woodpeckers in October, making each season a unique opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts.
