Cleaver Heath Nature Reserve, located in Heswall on the Wirral Peninsula, is a significant heathland managed by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust. It is part of the Heswall Dales Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and features stunning views of the Dee Estuary. The reserve is characterized by a vibrant carpet of heather and gorse, making it an ideal spot for evening strolls and wildlife observation. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife, particularly in spring and summer when butterflies and reptiles, such as common lizards, are active. Notable sightings include early bumblebees peaking in May and harvest mice in November. Birdwatchers may spot species like teal in December and brambling at dusk in October, while kestrels can often be seen hunting in the heathland. The best overall month for wildlife activity is May, particularly around 01:00.
