Claybrookes Marsh is an urban nature reserve that features a diverse range of habitats, including woodland, grassland, and remnants of natural marshland. Originally serving as the railhead for Binley Colliery, the site has since been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its rich biodiversity, including 49 nationally and regionally scarce insect species. Visitors can explore the reserve via meandering paths that showcase its unique ecological character. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, particularly in April when activity peaks around 01:00. Look out for muntjac, grey squirrels, and red foxes, all of which are frequently observed during this time. The reserve also hosts common spotted-orchids and various butterfly species, with dragonflies making a spectacular appearance in June. For those keen on birdwatching, keep an eye out for Eurasian blackbirds and woodpigeons in the spring months.
