Clarborough Tunnel is located 3 miles from Retford along the Retford to Gainsborough railway line. The reserve features a mix of habitats, including an old orchard and garden at the entrance, alongside three areas of spoil from the railway tunnel construction in 1849, now covered with dense woodland, scrub, and grassland. Most of the reserve is situated over the tunnel itself, providing a unique environment for various wildlife species. Visitors to Clarborough Tunnel can look forward to observing a range of species, particularly in August when activity peaks. Notable sightings include the Meadow Grasshopper and the Four-spotted Chaser, both best observed around 01:00. The small pond on-site also supports diverse pond life, making it an excellent spot for nature enthusiasts to explore during the summer months.
