Chun Downs is a captivating heathland reserve located within the West Penwith Moors, which boasts 25% of Cornwall's heathland. This site features a mix of scrub and ancient landmarks, including the impressive Chûn Castle, an Iron-Age hillfort offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and coastline. The area is rich in history, with evidence of human occupation dating back to the 3rd Century BCE. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting the Red-billed Chough, particularly in September around 13:00, when their activity peaks. Other notable species include the Willow Warbler and Hooded Crow, both peaking in October, with the best viewing times at dawn and 11:00, respectively. For those visiting in the spring, keep an eye out for the Tree Pipit in April, best observed around 16:00.
